W02 Trailway North, Inland Home

$3.50

Start/Finish: Harlem. Going through: Manhattan, The Bronx, Westchester. Distance: 54 miles. Climbing: 2,605′

Description

This Westchester Trailway Pleasantville Route is part of a suite of bike rides in Westchester.  They’re designed for cyclists who want to start exploring the east bank of the Hudson.  I advise also purchasing W01, W02, W03 to get a more complete picture of what’s easy to ride in southern Westchester.

This one shoots you north through the middle of Westchester.  At the northernmost point, it turns east and then sweeps south to bring you back home.  By local ride standards it’s on the flatter side of things.  And, like many local rides, it’s hard to tell where you’re going as you’re in the woods most of the time.  Even though you’re in the middle of suburbia most of the time, it feels pretty empty for probably three quarters of the ride.

Back to the set of routes.  I think seeing all the rides will help give you both choice and context.

One of my frustrations with downloading rides in areas I’m not familiar with is that I often feel like I’m in a trench and can’t see what’s on either side of me, creating a little anxiety if I get off track. By having these different rides and ride descriptions, you can see where you are both on the route and relative to other rides. The world is a bit more complete that way.   By having multiple rides, you can also further explore the area and keep riding fresh.
