Description

Tarrytown Rockefeller Bike Ride.

The Mario Cuomo Tappan Zee Bridge Bike Path is a boon to area cyclists.  Westchester riders can ride to Rockland.  Rockland riders can ride to Westchester.  Riders from the north and south can use the bridge to expand riding options.  Folks can even drive to where the path makes landfall in Tarrytown and Nyack to park their cars and ride.

This ride is aimed more at folks who are coming from Nyack, whether they live in Rockland or Bergen Counties, or are coming north from New  York City.  But Westchester riders who are looking for something new could benefit as well.

The ride begins at the Tarrytown side of the bridge bike path.  It quickly gets away from Broadway and takes on quiet country roads that feel far more remote than being in the middle of the suburbs, which is the reality of what surrounds the route.  I find these kinds of roads fun.  The road is rarely flat and rarely straight.  It’s constantly curving, dipping, climbing, a virtual roller coaster for the two-wheeled set.

Notes: This is part of a suite of bike rides in Westchester.  They’re designed for cyclists who want to start exploring the east bank of the Hudson.  I advise also purchasing W01, W02, W03 to get a more complete picture of what’s easy to ride in southern Westchester.  I think seeing all the rides will help give you both choice and context.  One of my frustrations with downloading rides in areas I’m not familiar with is that I often feel like I’m in a trench and can’t see what’s on either side of me, creating a little anxiety if I get off track. By having these different rides and ride descriptions, you can see where you are both on the route and relative to other rides. The world is a bit more complete that way.   By having multiple rides, you can also further explore the area and keep riding fresh.
