Rockland Rides

Rockland County has excellent riding.  As it’s at least 13 miles north of the George Washington Bridge, it takes a bit of a commitment just to get there.  Meaning that many might not have the yen to meader, to get lost and experiment on the roads as there’s rarely enough time in the day for that sort of frivolity.

The approach to Nyack is a familiar one for NYC cyclists. Coffee and muffins are ahead.

I started riding into Rockland when I had that kind of time.  It’s generally a much newer-seeming place than Bergen County.  Fewer open spaces, fewer roads, fewer people.  Lots of variety.  In some places, the riding is great.  However, you occasionally need to ride through towns where the roads are in terrible shape.  But even they are worth the extra eyeballing to avoid the potholes and bad pavement.

one-lane tunnels are a thing in Rockland. This one used to have a blinking light.

There aren’t many rides that originate in Rockland yet.  But I’m working on it.  The rides designated with an R all start and finish in Rockland.  You can look at many of the rides that originate from the GWB to ride from there into Rockland and back, or over to Westchester.
